SACHS Mission

Welcome to the Savoie Acadian Cultural and Historical Society!.

A group of cousins from distant lands met on a private family genealogy chat site. They started out laughing and chatting. They began collective researching. They became volunteers. Still laughing. They collected, they amassed, they chatted. Someone suggested "Let's meet in Acadia". We saw our ancestor's land. We saw an abandoned building. We thought "Let's build a monument there". Then someone else suggested "Why not a research centre?" Someone else said "You have to incorporate." SACHS is the result.

  2. To study and document their life in the Annapolis Valley and migration to other parts of Canada and other countries
  3. To trace, connect and regroup their descendants in the world
  4. To provide training to members on techniques and methodology of genealogical, historical and archaeological research
  5. To operate a small museum and resource center, known as Belle Isle Hall in Belleisle, Nova Scotia, dedicated to the collection, research, analysis, study and preservation of historical documents, books and artifacts, as well as genealogical and historical data sets relating to the Acadian settlers of the Annapolis Valley and their descendants in the World.
  6. To make available to the local community and to the Acadian diasporas around the world a place to study their past and meet each other.
  7. To make available and disseminate findings and new knowledge generated by research by way of publications and diffusion on the Internet.
